We help people and organisations re-imagine human development — through Ubuntu, the Southern African philosophy of relational humanity.

Ubuntu is often represented by the phrase “I am because we are.”

Rather than people developing separate to their organisations and returning to unchanged environments, we co-create journeys in which organisations can develop alongside their people.

Through facilitated learning, coaching, and organisational-development partnerships, The UHDC co-designs and stewards human-development journeys that strengthen systemic wellbeing, relationship health, career progression, and culture built on shared values.

Our journeys are;

Designed and stewarded with—not for—people and organisations.

Building humanity at work, together.

What happens when people develop, but the organisation around them doesn't?

What becomes possible when both develop together?

The reality we recognise.

Investment may be organised in parts. People experience the whole.

Organisations invest thoughtfully in wellbeing, leadership, inclusion and culture — yet people experience these together, through relationships, opportunities and the everyday conditions of their work.

When investments stay disconnected, even valuable initiatives compete for the same finite human resources — time, energy, attention and emotional capacity — without shifting the wider conditions people return to.

The need may not be another initiative. It may be the opportunity to connect what already matters.

What if People Development were understood as a shared investment?

People bring knowledge, lived experience, relationships, creativity and energy. Organisations shape purpose, opportunity, resources and the conditions within which those contributions can grow.

Neither flourishes fully without the other.

Ubuntu offers a relational orientation to this work: people become through one another, and individual and organisational flourishing are interdependent.

The UHDC brings these perspectives into shared exploration — recognising what is already present, surfacing what may be limiting possibility, and co-designing journeys through which meaningful change can take root.

What might we journey into together?

Every organisation begins from a different place.

A Journey is a structured, co-designed path through which people and organisations explore and respond to a human or organisational need or possibility together.

These following five interconnected terrains offer possible doorways into the work.

Journey of Be(coming) into Inclusive Leadership Journey of Be(coming) into Inclusive Leadership

Strengthening the relational foundations through which people communicate, collaborate, navigate difference, exercise accountability and repair trust.

Journey of Be(coming) into Systemic Wellbeing

Moving beyond isolated or reactive support to explore how workload, energy, belonging, relationships, leadership, systems and purpose influence the ways people and organisations flourish together.

What conditions might we cultivate to enable your people and organisation to flourish—together?

Journey of Be(coming) into Career Progression

Journey of Be(coming) into Career Progression
£0.00

Creating more visible and equitable pathways for early-career development, transitions into leadership and wider career mobility.

How might we create pathways through which potential, contribution and leadership are recognised, nurtured and enabled to grow within your organisation?

Journey of Be(coming) into Values-Aligned Culture Journey of Be(coming) into Values-Aligned Culture

Journey of Be(coming) into Values-Aligned Culture
£0.00

Bringing expressed organisational values into closer relationship with everyday behaviour and decisions.

Are our values recognisable in how we lead, decide and relate? How might we strengthen what works and plug the gaps together?

These terrains are distinct, but they do not exist in isolation.

A conversation beginning with wellbeing may reveal questions of relationship or leadership.

A progression challenge may also illuminate culture, power and belonging.

The doorway gives us somewhere to begin. The Journey helps us discover what the wider terrain is asking us to notice.

The way we travel.

The journey is designed and stewarded with—not for—people and organisations.

The UHDC brings structure, facilitation, coaching and stewardship. Organisations and their people bring purpose, context, lived experience and knowledge of the terrain.

Each commissioned Journey moves through the following four connected movements:

The movements the journeys follow.

Possibility Scoping
£0.00

Exploring the question, tension, hope or organisational reality calling for attention.

Stewarding the Experience
£0.00

Creating spaces for story, reflection, relationship, constructive challenge, experimentation and application.

Co-designing the Journey
£0.00

Bringing organisational priorities into conversation with the experiences and perspectives of the people who will travel through it.

Harvesting Growth and Legacy
£0.00

Noticing what is changing and strengthening the relationships, practices and organisational capacity that can carry the work forward. Each Journey is structured without becoming rigid, participatory without losing purpose and responsive without losing integrity.

What depth might the journey need?

A Journey is the co-designed path through which we explore a need or possibility together.

An Engagement describes the depth of partnership needed to support it.

Foundation Engagement

A focused and bounded starting point for exploring a clearly defined question, establishing shared understanding and beginning meaningful movement.

Deepened Engagement

A more extended Journey, creating greater space for participation, reflection, application, learning and adaptation over time.

Integrated Engagement

A sustained partnership connecting multiple layers of organisational life and supporting deeper alignment between people, relationships, leadership, culture, systems and purpose.

These are not levels of quality or a ladder every organisation must climb.

Each can stand as a responsible Engagement in its own right.

We seek the smallest depth capable of serving the Journey with integrity.

What depth of engagement would give that Journey the space, stewardship and investment it needs to take root in your organisation?

The Festival of Be(Coming)

The Festival of Be(coming) is UHDC’s experiential form: a living village of story, relationship, movement, reflection, creativity and choice. People participate as travellers rather than simply attending as audiences.

Our festival guiding principle;

You come as you are.

Leave as you may become.

We walk together.

Explore together.

Become together.

The Ubuntu Wellbeing Festival is its first fully developed and currently commissionable expression. It invites people to encounter wellbeing as something systemic and shared—exploring the connections between personal experience, relationships and organisational conditions.

The Ubuntu Wellbeing Festival offers three complete Wellbeing Walks—Tanga, Batanai and Raramai—each carrying a distinctive developmental invitation while giving people agency over how they participate.

Where Might Your Journey Begin?

You do not need to arrive with a finished brief — a question, a tension, or a sense that something is ready to be explored differently is enough.

A complimentary Possibility Conversation creates space to listen together and discern whether The UHDC could responsibly support the Journey ahead.

Not every conversation needs to become a commission. Where partnership feels possible, we identify the smallest responsible Engagement capable of giving the Journey room to take root.

Experience Behind the Invitation.

The UHDC’s roots travel through the life and work of its founder, Dumi Senda—known to many as Coach Dumi: from ten years working as a labourer in the United Kingdom to storytelling, peacebuilding, advocacy, education, coaching and organisational leadership.

Dumi’s experience spans widening progression pathways through SEO London, international learning and development through Righttrack Learning, and strategic work in workplace inclusion and belonging across BBC England.

He is an ICF-certified coach, LinkedIn Learning Instructor and contributor to the Penguin-published Everyday Ubuntu: Living Better Together, the African Way. His academic journey has included a degree in International Relations and Peace Studies from Leeds Beckett University and an MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford.

Within The UHDC, Dumi brings this accumulated experience and thinking into relationship with the knowledge, realities and possibilities held by others. He convenes, designs and stewards Journeys with—not for—people and organisations.

Could your next gathering be inspired by the energy, warmth and thought leadership Dumi brings to conversations through a keynote?

“DUMI!

I had to shout your name mate. Thank you so much for an amazing event. It was a pleasure to hear and experience your stories, energy, and positive attitude. It was an inspiring talk and as Leon said, the feedback has been really positive.”
— Peter, Senior Leader, Bank of England.

Keynote by Dumi.

Investing in What Matters.

Reimagining people development, together.

A manager asks,

“How's it going?”

“Fine.”

The moment passes.

This keynote asks what becomes possible when organisations and their people learn to stay in that moment a little longer, together.
